The United Nations Security Council met privately on Wednesday to address the disruption of Mali's transitional government, which occurred after the apparent forced removal of both the President and Prime Minister on Tuesday by the leader of last August's military coup, Colonel Assimi Goita.
News sources reported that the arrests made by Colonel Assimi Goita on Monday of top civilian leaders, including the transitional President, were due to their failure to consult him regarding a government reshuffle.
The Security Council condemned the detention of the transitional President and other officials by Mali's Defence and Security forces in a statement released after the emergency meeting.
