The panel of judges for the Sydney Peace Prize has described the Uluru Statement from the Heart as a "powerful and historic offering of peace," highlighting its significant role in the process of healing and reconciliation in Australia. Although the statement was initially presented to the Australian public in May 2017, its recommendations have not yet been put into action.
The Uluru Statement proposes two fundamental changes, including the constitutional recognition of an Indigenous voice in Parliament and a Makarrata process to investigate truth-telling and treaty-making. Unfortunately, neither recommendation has been implemented, and the Indigenous voice has yet to be presented to a referendum.
